The question was popped, the yes was celebrated, and the ring is shiny and perfect. Many people think the next thing on the list should be setting a date, or finding a wedding venue. As an industry insider and wedding photographer, I can tell you the one to-do list item that gets overlooked early on by many couples is the planner.
Your wedding planner can help you every step of the way as you plan and prep for that walk down the aisle. After working a gorgeous wedding with her team at The Maples in Woodland, CA, I asked one of my favorite Sacramento Area wedding planners, Rebecca Tuttle of The Becca and Co. to share her top three reasons why your wedding planner just might become your best friend (and why you should definitely bump booking your planner up the to-do list NOW). Let’s take a look!

Reason One: Vendor Negotiations
Becca shared “In Full Planning we’re here to help you understand the proposals your vendors are sending you, add what we know you’ll need, and take out what we know you don’t need. We’ll navigate the conversation and get the bookings right from the start!” Wedding Photography is a huge area where this can be helpful. Deciding if you need an engagement session, a second photographer, or how many hours of wedding day photographer coverage are all big questions that require some careful consideration.

Reason Two: Design
Becca writes “Design is SO much more than pretty pictures and a color palette. We’ll work with you (in partial planning or full) to bring that vision to life. I call it “localizing” the design. Going beyond just the perfected design board and vision, we’ll actually help you source the vendors and make the orders for the key vendors involved in the design of the wedding: rentals, specialty rentals, linens, invitations, and linens. Design is highly logistical when you think about it. A planner can help you make sure you’re not missing a key step that will end up in a scramble day of!” When there is a planner handling the details, it allows every vendor hired to do their best work. In stead of running around solving problems, we have all attention on the job at hand, leaving you with better wedding photos and a better overall experience.

Reason Three: Proactive vs Reactive
Becca added “We’ve done this for years. Not to say you couldn’t handle it, but you SHOULDN’T have to. There is an overwhelming amount of stress being emotionally involved as the bride or the groom while planning a wedding. When you hire a pro, they have the ability to separate the emotion out of the decision making process and allow you to work together as a team to be PROACTIVE vs. REACTIVE. Meaning, let us find the red flag and discrepancies through our strategic planning process so your entire vendor team is already on the same page weeks prior to the wedding date. You don’t want a “he-said-she-said” tiff happening over who was supposed to supply and store the ice on the day of the wedding. When you hire a planner, they think of all the little in-between responsibilities, like ice and SO MUCH MORE, well in advance and assign each task to the right vendor so it’s organized all before hand.”

Working alongside Becca’s team and my other favorite planners in the area, I can attest that the level of enjoyment, the overall look and feel of the day, and the wedding photography, the piece of the day that you actually get to keep forever, are all elevated dramatically when you outsource this huge part of the process and let the wedding vendor team do what they do best!
