When it comes time to plan your wedding day timeline, you will probably notice that there are quite a few items on your list and only a certain number of hours to squeeze them into. So what makes sunset portraits important enough to skip out on the reception for a bit? We talked to top wedding planners in Northern California, polled past wedding couples, and compiled a list of the top 5 reasons for you.

1. Romantic, Flattering Light
There is nothing like that soft evening glow to give an immediate feel of romance. Whether your venue is in the mountains, a winery wedding, or you’re planning a beach ceremony, that hazy light adds an extra touch to the moment as well as the images.
Evening light is also much less harsh. No matter if you have a fair or dark complexion, the way the light rays hit in the evening will have you glowing on the outside just as much as your I-do’s have you glowing on the inside.

2. Time for the Two of You
Ask anyone who has been married, and they will tell you that the wedding day is an absolute whirlwind. Being able to take a few moments to be with your brand new spouse is a huge perk that you likely will not be able to have otherwise. Plus, even if you are planning on taking couples portraits during your first look, you won’t be wearing those sparkling new rings before the ceremony. Even if you only take 10 minutes away from your guests, those moments will be wonderfully spent.
If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with your timeline, I suggest chatting with your photographer and read why that’s just one thing your planner could be helping you with HERE!

3. They Will be Your Favorite Images
Nine times out of ten, the sunset portraits are what our clients put on their walls. Why? Because they’re gorgeous! And reasons number 1 and 2 do tend to combine into a perfect storm of wedding photography. Sunset portraits beat out the first kiss, the ceremony exit, and even the first dance, in almost every piece of wall art we create for our wedding clients.
